Decontamination Training
Decontamination training is the most critical component in ensuring the safety of hospital staff during any hazardous materials incident.
OSHA requires that hospitals provide ongoing training (Awareness & Operations) to personnel who are expected to decontaminate or interact with contaminated victims.
Sustaining this capability is a challenge for any program or response capability that is used infrequently and intended to persevere over time. Our goal is to help hospitals attain a real, working level of decontamination preparedness and then support that effort over time – a task DQE has done successfully for over 20 years.
- Hospital Decon Site Survey evaluation of a hospital's current level of decontamination preparedness
- Awareness Level Training for hospital personnel who may encounter a contaminated patient or be called upon to support the decon process, but are not part of the hospital’s Decon Team
- Operations Level Training for personnel who are expected to decontaminate victims or handle them before they are thoroughly decontaminated
- Instructor Training for teaching instructors how to train others to become active members of the hospital’s Decon Team
- Refresher Training for Decon Team members previously trained by DQE and certified to the Operations Level to help them sustain skills and meet OSHA requirements
- Online Decon Training to allow staff to train at their own pace to sustain skills, or help achieve Awareness or Operations Level training
- Hazardous Material Incident Plan to provide a planning document for proper recognition, notification, and plan activation procedures
DQE Decontamination Training Programs are aligned with OSHA, NIMS activities for hospitals and healthcare systems, HICS, HSEEP, ASPR, NFPA 99, and The Joint Commission.
